4:08 pm - What dark and magical story/film do you think could work well as a musical?

syeuk2002
I hope you don't mind, I'd just like to get the opinion of like minded people. :)

My friend has to adapt a story or film into a musical for his college course.

He has been assigned the theme dark and magical. We are having trouble finding the right idea. Think brothers grim, Addams family, sleepy hollow.

What story/film do you think would work well for the theme? Ideas please?

Many Thanks XD

2:13 am - New blog!

jonsthoughts
Hey everyone! I've started a new cast recording comparison blog called "Cast By Cast". Check it out: http://castbycast.blogspot.com

It's to compare and contrast various recordings of the same show. And my favorite part is putting together a mix playlist at the end of the "ultimate" cast recording of each show. Hopefully it'll be fun.

I've just posted the first show (A Chorus Line) so any feedback would be great too.

6:13 pm - Everybody Wants To Do A Musical

happgood
Hey kids... I hope all are well.

A couple of months back I asked who might be interested in getting copies of a lost musical on CD. I got several responses and dutifully sent them out BUT only one person ever told me that they liked it or even listened to it.

I was hoping to start an Obscure/Lost Musicals of the Month Club, but if nobody's really interested I guess I'll just keep my collection to myself.

My collection exists because of the kindness of several people who opened their collections of rare materials to me years ago, and several continue to do so to this day.

So here's my query... Is ANYBODY out there interested in this?

If your answer is YES, please send a response to HAPPGOOD@AOL.COM

Also, I've had only ONE response to the latest Musicals Quiz at Broadway Cafe Society.

C'mon gang, it can't be that difficult, can it? 11 days left and $25.00 Amazon Gift Certificate!

9:52 am - Review blog

jonsthoughts
Fellow cast recording lovers,
I've been considering lately starting a blog to review my collection of 350 shows. I'd review only the shows of which I have multiple recordings. Sort of a compare/contrast deal. Similar to the theatermania.com book (which I highly recommend!). Would there be interest in it from people who might care?
Just checking the pulse,
Jon

Following their internationally acclaimed season of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins, Warehaus Theatre presents another Brisbane first: the Tony® Award winning Broadway sensation, Parade.

Set in Georgia, U.S.A., in 1913, Parade is the tragic, true story of Leo Frank, a Jewish man wrongly accused of the
murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, and at the hands of a merciless media, Leo’s fate is sealed. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience, and his devoted wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.

One of the greatest scores in modern music theatre, Parade won 1999 Tony™ awards for Best Score and Best Book. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime event!

12:51 am - Self-Referential Broadway

Today, I found it interesting that one of the characters in a musical (Wedding Singer) is currently on Broadway in another musical (3Penny Opera). Is Cyndi Lauper the first? While there have been other references, have they been similar?

Hmmm.

I'm looking for sheet music to Irving Berlin's
"Oh how I hate to get up in the morning".

It's from Yip, Yip, Yaphank.

Does anyone know where I could find this to purchase?
(No luck at Lincoln Center so far)
